Cast aluminium is chosen for garden and terrace furniture for its classic look and sturdiness. Aluminium doesn't rust; but whether the furniture keeps looking new for years depends on protecting its painted surface.
How the surface is prepared
According to the materials table of Cast Garden products, models such as Queen, Rose and Suwan go through this process:
- Material: Injection-cast aluminium
- Surface preparation: Sand-blasting and electro-phosphate coating
- Paint: Electrostatic oven-baked powder coating (suitable for outdoors)
- Feet: Protective plastic feet that don't scratch the floor
Sand-blasting and electro-phosphating help the paint bond to the metal. The aim of care is to keep this paint layer clean without scratching or wearing it.
Regular cleaning
- Remove dust and pollen with a soft brush or cloth.
- Wipe with lukewarm water and a little mild soap, then rinse with clean water.
- Use a soft-bristled brush for the recesses of patterned castings.
- Dry the furniture or leave it to dry in the sun.
What to avoid
- Steel wool, abrasive powders and cream cleaners scratch the paint.
- Products containing solvents (thinner, acetone) or bleach can damage the finish.
- Don't hold a pressure washer too close to the surface.
By the sea and the pool
Near the sea, salt, and by the pool, chlorine leave residue on the surface. Rinsing the furniture more often with fresh water in these areas extends the life of the paint.
Preparing for winter
- Clean the furniture and dry it completely.
- Store it indoors if possible; if it stays outside, use a breathable cover.
- Position it so that water doesn't collect on table tops and seats.
- Store cushions separately in a dry place.
